Pep Guardiola on possibility of Eric Garcia departing Man City before end of transfer window

Guardiola on Garcia

Spanish defender Eric Garcia joined Manchester City’s youth ranks from Barcelona back in 2017.

And, towards the end of last season in particular, the 19-year-old began to cement himself as a regular in the club’s backline.

Garcia isn’t the most physically imposing central defender, but his intelligence and ability on the ball more than make up for that.

The youngster also appeared to be forming a promising partnership with Aymeric Laporte.

In a blow for Man City, though, they will soon be forced into parting ways with Garcia.

This comes with Pep Guardiola having confirmed last month that the stopper won’t be renewing his contract, which is set to run out next summer.

Barcelona, Garcia’s former club, in turn, have been the outfit most heavily linked with a move for the 19-year-old. It was even claimed recently that the Blaugrana were set to table a bid of around €15m for the stopper.

However, with just a few days remaining before the transfer window slams shut, Garcia remains a City player.

And when asked if he expects the teen to depart before Monday’s deadline, Guardiola recently had the following to say:

“I don’t know. I cannot answer this question so I don’t know. Today he’s our player, on Monday finishes the transfer window so I don’t know.

“I don’t know exactly what is going to happen. I know he wants to live there, I know Barcelona wants him but I think there’s no deal between the clubs. This is what I know right now, so what is going to finish I don’t know.”

Leeds vs Man City

Man City’s next outing pits them against Leeds United on Saturday evening.

Garcia has not been afforded a starting berth, though, with new signing Ruben Dias instead partnering Laporte.

And Dias will most certainly have to be at his best today to keep this free-flowing Leeds outfit quiet.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have netted eight goals in their opening three league games this season.
