Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang calls Houssem Aouar to Arsenal

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has this evening revealed his hope that the club eventually secure a deal for Lyon star Houssem Aouar.

Arsenal’s Aouar chase

Recent days have of course seen reports linking French midfielder Aouar with a move to the Emirates ramp up.

Mikel Arteta is known to be on the lookout for reinforcements at the heart of his side’s midfield, as speculation continues to swirl surrounding the futures of both Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

Chief among the Arsenal boss’ targets, meanwhile, have long been Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, and the aforementioned Aouar.

As such, it no doubt came as music to the ears of the Gunners faithful when, earlier this week, word began to mount in the French media that Arsenal had agreed personal terms with the Lyon standout.

This was swiftly followed by further claims that the Premier League giants had tabled an offer for Aouar’s signature, worth a fee in the region of €35 million.

To this point, however, evidently, a deal is yet to come to fruition.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has also hinted that Aouar could yet stay put for the season ahead, with Arsenal ‘too far’ from the gifted midfielder’s valuation:

‘There will be very few departures. For Houssem, Arsenal are too far from his value.’

‘We are counting on him to play a great game in Lorient and lead Lyon into the Champions League next year.’

As outlined above, however, one individual who has evidently not given up hope of the Gunners eventually finding an avenue to coax Lyon into a sale is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking in an interview with Canal+ on Sunday, the hitman was drawn on the potential arrival of Aouar at the club.

And, though he was keen to reiterate that the 22-year-old remains ‘a Lyon man’, Arsenal’s captain also admitted that he, along with the rest of Mikel Arteta’s squad, are ‘all for’ Aouar’s arrival:
