Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang set to sign new three-year contract with Arsenal ‘imminently’

A fresh update concerning Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s current contract situation has been forthcoming online on Thursday.

Aubameyang’s Arsenal stint

The forward’s future at the Emirates has been up in the air for some time now.

Aubameyang signed for the Gunners in January of 2018 and quickly went on to establish himself as an absolutely crucial figure in north London.

Just this past season, for example, Aubameyang netted 22 times in the league and scored braces in the FA Cup semi-final and final to hand Mikel Arteta his first piece of silverware as a coach.

But with the hitman’s current deal having less than 12 months to run, Arsenal looked to be at serious risk of losing their star man, captain and top goal scorer.

Aubameyang to sign new deal

It was even reported back in April that Arsenal had shelved contract talks with the Gabonese international and had no choice but to listen to offers for their top-scorer.

In the months that followed, talks did seem to take a more positive step forward.

But the Arsenal faithful were no doubt getting concerned about the length of time it was taking the 31-year-old to make a decision over his future.

Now though, it seems Aubameyang is finally set to put an end to all the speculation and worry.

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Aubameyang will ‘imminently’ sign a three-year deal with Arsenal, which will also see him become the club’s highest-paid star.

In terms of getting the deal over the line, Ornstein reports it was largely negotiated by Arsenal’s former head of football Raul Sanllehi, with Mikel Arteta also playing an instrumental role in getting Aubameyang to commit his future to the club.
