Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set to undergo Tottenham medical on Monday

Reports have begun to circulate on Monday morning that Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to undergo a medical at Tottenham today.

Southampton standout

Hojbjerg joined Southampton in 2016 from FC Bayern Munich after failing to garner regular football for the German powerhouse.

The Saints are understood to have paid just over £13m for the midfielder, a fee which was proven something of a bargain.

All told, Hojbjerg has gone on to feature 134 times for the South East outfit, during which time he has scored five and assisted six.

Said goal return might not like sound like an awful lot for a midfielder, but the Dane’s game is less about goal contributions and more about recovering the ball and starting off attacking moves for his side.

Hojbjerg also possesses all the qualities of a top leader and despite only recently turning 25 he was, until recently, Southampton’s captain.

Hojbjerg set for Spurs

Hojbjerg would be stripped of the captaincy by Ralph Hasenhuttl as he was not signing a new contract with his latest deal having less than a year to run.

Hojbjerg was also something of a fringe player in the final few games of the season.

This, understandably, led to speculation that Hojbjerg would be on the move in the summer with a number of high-profile sides, including Manchester City,  Everton and Tottenham, tipped to land the former Bayern Man.

It would be the latter of those outfits who looked to be in pole position to land Hojbjerg, though, with David Ornstein recently claiming the Southampton star was set to sign for the Lilywhites for an initial £15m on a five-year deal. Kyle-Walker Peters is also set to move in the opposite direction for £12m, meaning Spurs are essentially paying £3m for the midfielder.

Now, on Monday, a further development in the Hojbjerg to Tottenham transfer has emerged with numerous sources confirming he will undergo a medical with the north Londoners today.
