Tottenham are expressing an interest in RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer, the club’s sporting director has hinted.
Leipzig standout
Sabitzer has been on Leipzig’s books since 2014, having joined from Rapid Vienna.
And, following a brief loan spell with RB Salzburg, the Austrian has since gone on to cement himself as a key cog in the German outfit’s midfield.
All told, Sabitzer has notched 204 for appearances for Leipzig, across which he has scored 46 and assisted 38.
Sabitzer’s form to this point in the current campaign has proven a particular highlight, with the midfielder having acted as Leipzig’s captain across the majority of the club’s fixtures thus far.
Tottenham interested in Marcel Sabitzer?
And, as outlined above, one Premier League outfit to have seemingly had their attentions piqued by Sabitzer’s recent displays are Tottenham.
The Evening Standard claim that the midfielder is among Jose Mourinho’s key targets ahead of the January transfer window.
Sabitzer has around 18 months left on his current Leipzig contract.
When drawn on the Austrian’s future during a recent interview, meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Markus Krosche, explained that Sabitzer’s expiring deal will be addressed in the new year:
“We wanted to end the year first, both sides will deal more intensively with the topic in the spring.”
In the same interview, though, Krosche was also asked specifically about Tottenham’s interest in his side’s star midfielder, to which he responded:
“As I said, he has made a great development. It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this.
“I don’t like singling out anyone individually. But Marcel Sabitzer has really developed well.
“I also deal with him outside of the field. He accepts the role of captain extremely well and has matured even further as an individual.”
