‘Remarkable’ Alex Telles tipped to ‘do great things’ at Man United

The man who brought Alex Telles to Galatasaray has today revealed exactly why he feels the Brazilian is set to prove a massive success at Manchester United.

Left-back Telles of course came as one of four deadline day arrivals at Old Trafford.

Before all of Edinson Cavani, Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri were announced as the latest additions to Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s squad, Telles’ £15 million move to Manchester was confirmed on Monday evening.

And the 27-year-old, in the eyes of many, actually comes as the most exciting of the Red Devils’ latest batch of arrivals.

Telles developed into one of European football’s most productive full-backs during his time with Porto, as evidenced by his haul of 13 goals and 12 assists across all competitions last season.

As such, he is expected to add a new dimension of guile and cutting edge to United’s left flank, with an explosive partnership alongside Marcus Rashford potentially in store.

‘Deserves this level of football’

And, as outlined above, one man who is in absolutely no doubt that Telles will go on to shine in his new surroundings is Emre Utkucan.

Utkucan, head scout at Galatasaray, is the man credited with ‘discovering’ the stopper, having convinced Turkish giants Gala to bring Telles to Europe back in 2014.

He has since gone on to watch the Brazilian develop into one of the continent’s most productive in his role, with Utkucan having opened up on Telles’ talents during an interview with The Athletic earlier today.

First, when drawn on why it took so long for one of Europe’s heavyweights to take a permanent punt on the 27-year-old (he previously lined out on loan for Inter Milan), the Galatasaray scout explained:

‘I think he has been there at the top level for the last two, three years.’

‘Why a transfer didn’t happen before? I think it’s due to the market and the money Porto were demanding [Telles’ buyout clause was set at €40m].’

‘But he deserves this level of football based on his form in the last two seasons especially.’

‘For a left-back, his attacking output is remarkable.’

Utkucan continued:

‘United is a massive, massive club, and this is a different standard of football.’

‘It’s a more physical league, and he may take time to adapt. But I know the guy, his mental strength and his abilities.’

‘I am sure he will do great things.’
