Daniele Rugani

Double deal close

Rennes are seemingly looking to use a proportion of the money made from Chelsea’s recent purchase of Edouard Mendy to strengthen defensively.

Daniele Rugani and Dalbert are looking likely acquisitions. The French club want to strengthen their squad having qualified for the Champions League:

Rugani has been associated with Juventus for 8 years, originally being co-owned with Empoli who he rose through the youth ranks with. However, numerous senior players have blocked Rugani’s path to the first team since his arrival.

Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Mehdi Benatia and more recently Matthijs de Ligt. Now 26-years-old, Rugani needs to move and Rennes are supposedly offering a loan deal.

Dalbert would return to France 3 years after having left Nice for a reported €20 million plus add-ons. Importantly, playing at either left-back or left wing-back, the Brazilian would add speed and creativity to the French club’s left flank.

Saliba loan doubtful

With the likelihood of Rugani moving to Rennes, surely William Saliba’s supposed loan deal now looks unlikely?

Saliba is yet to play a senior competitive fixture for Arsenal since his high-profile move from Saint-Etienne. Asked about the Frenchman, Arteta reiterated his stance to give Saliba the best year possible for his development.

“Well as I explained, the difficult year that the player had and the plan that we had for him, for the transition year, we could not achieve,” the Spaniard remarked.

William Saliba

“We are looking at different options to try to have the best possible development for the player and to protect our intentions with William for the future. We want to both be aligned and make the best decision for now and for the future.”

With days left of the window, Arsenal’s decision makers will need to move quickly to orchestrate a possible loan.
