A robbery with violence suspect on Wednesday stabbed himself in the neck to avoid getting arrested by detectives in Langas, Uasin Gishu County.
Detectives had laid ambush at the suspect’s house after receiving intelligence from his accomplices who called him their leader.
He is believed to be the mastermind behind a motorbike-theft syndicate terrorising locals in Kapseret and its environs.
Kapseret Sub-county police commander Francis Weru confirmed the incident, saying the suspect refused to surrender and instead, ran himself through with a kitchen knife.
He died on the way to the hospital.
His body was removed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital with detectives saying they recovered three motorbikes, believed to have been stolen.
Two other suspects believed to be part of the gang are expected in court on Thursday for robbery with violence charges.
