Nigeria’s D’Tigers is on the verge of redeeming its battered image as they recorded a good win against Mali in the ongoing 2021 Afrobasket championship in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Nigeria senior men’s basketball team has a tournament to forget in Tokyo Olympics in Japan as they failed to live up to expectations after they suffered defeat in three successive games.

The newest Nigeria side under coach Mike Brown pummeled Mali 81-73 and secured maximum points in the opening group game.

D’Tigers won the first quarter 28-12 but lost the second quarter 16-31, but quickly recovered in the third quarter with 71-53 while the Malians rallied back to win the 4th with 10-20 points.

The points recorded in the 2nd and 4th quarter were not enough to deny D’Tigers a required victory.

Benjamin Emelogu was Nigeria’s top performer with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Nigeria next game is against Kenya in Fronay at the Kigali Arena.
