2023 AFCON: Osimhen To Miss South Africa Clash

Super Eagles striker and reigning Africa Best Player, Victor Osimhen may not play in the make or mar semi-finals clash with South Africa at the 2023 AFCON.

Osimhen, who failed to travel with the team to Bouaké is reported to have an abdominal discomfort and is being assessed by the Super Eagles medics.

According to the update from Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji, made available to BSN Sports, he could still feature in the game if he is declared fit by Wednesday before joining his teammates for the crunch encounter at the Stade de la Paix (Stadium of Peace) in Bouake on Wednesday evening.

“Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort.

“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”

Nigeria will trade tackles with South Africa in the semi-final of the ongoing African Nations Cup in Bouake on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
