Cape Verde senior women’s national team are hoping to upturn a 5-0 heavy defeat in the hand of Nigeria Super Falcons in the first leg of their 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations final round qualifying fixture held in Abuja.
Despite losing 0-5 to Super Falcons of Nigeria, Cape Verde insisted that anything can still happen when they host Nigeria next Wednesday.
A first half brace from Uchenna Kanu and second half brace from substitute Esther Okoronkwo confirmed the nine-time African champions hope of being at the next African Women’s Nations Cup in Morocco next year.
With the second leg holding next Wednesday, Silvéria Nédio, the Head Coach of Cape Verde team said they’re hopeful they can upturn the 0-5 deficit.
“Anything can happen in the second leg in Cape Verde. We are hopeful and there will always be hope that things can change. We know we played against one of the best team in Africa. We are learning and today we learnt a lot.” She said.
Cape Verde will host the Super Falcons on Wednesday 5th December, 2023 in the second leg of the qualifier. The overall winners in the two legs will qualify for the African Women’s Nations Cup in Morocco.
