The Warriors of Zimbabwe put up a scintillating performance in their opening group game of the 2026 World Cup qualifier as they held host Rwanda to a goalless draw in Huye.
Zimbabwe who returned to International football in September after a long time due to FIFA’s ban did not show any sign of match rustiness with their decent display.
The host Amavubi dominated the first stanza of the game and their best chance came in the 30th minute through Dvukamanja but it was blocked by Hadebe.
The away side grew into the game in the second half and took over the game from the host.
Their effort almost paid off in the 70th minute but the goal scored by Munetsi was ruled offside.
Both sides worked extra hard to outwit each other but it was never meant to be as the game ended 0-0.
The Warriors of Zimbabwe will remain at the venue to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their second game.
The Zimbabwe Football Association announced in September that they have adopted Huye stadium in Rwanda as their home ground after their national stadium in Harare failed to get CAF approval.
