Ademola Lookman was on target as Atalanta secured a crucial Champions League win over Stuttgart, extending their unbeaten European run this season.
The Italian side controlled much of the first half, though Stuttgart threatened with missed chances from Anthony Rouault and former Brighton striker Deniz Undav.
Coming off their recent 3-0 win over Napoli, Atalanta took charge early in the second half, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s halftime substitution making an impact.
Charles De Ketelaere’s low cross found Lookman, who tapped it home to give Atalanta the lead. Lookman’s goal brings his season total to eight in 12 appearances across all competitions, building on his strong form following last season’s Europa League hat-trick in the final.
Stuttgart nearly equalised through Ermedin Demirovic, but the forward missed from close range. Atalanta, however, sealed their win when Nicolo Zaniolo added a late counter-attacking goal, keeping the team’s record intact as they continue to avoid conceding in Europe.
With eight points in four games, Atalanta holds a strong position heading into their match against Young Boys, while Stuttgart travels to Belgrade to face Crvena Zvezda on matchday five.
