The most priced blessing for the Super Eagles is fast becoming a curse. It is very clear, even to the blind that the major strength of the Nigerian National team is the array of forwards, especially strikers, who adorn the Green White Green, some of whom include African King Victor Osimhen, Leicester City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho, Sadiq Umar, Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Boniface and others.
Earlier, it was reported that Kelechi Iheanacho would not be available for the trip to Côte d’Ivoire due to a minor injury sustained for Leicester City, but luck smiled on the Eagles as he has recovered successfully and will join up with the squad on the 13th of January, though not full fit.
Such was not the case for Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface as he has been ruled out of the AFCON following a Groin injury during training, which required surgery and will see him out for at least 6 weeks.
Also, Real Sociedad point man Sadiq Umar has also been ruled out following an injury, also picked in training, which would also make him miss Africa’s biggest show piece.
He has been replaced with Trabzonspor striker, Paul Onuachu, who made the provisional list but was not deemed fit for the final shortlist.
The former Southampton striker has had 12 goal involvements in 15 games, which comprises nine goals and three assists.
The Nigeria Football Federation will now be awaiting confirmation and clearance from his club, Trabzonspor for the striker to join up with the squad.
