Al Ahly suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the African Football League semi-finals on Sunday.
The Reds made their way into the semi-finals after overcoming Tanzanian giants Simba on away goals following a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
Mamelodi Sundowns were in complete control and dominated the game in possession and chances created.
The Brazilians’ pressure was rewarded as they took the lead after the break when Marwan Atia was dispossessed allowing Thapelo Maseko to hit one from a distance beyond Mohamed El-Shenawy.
In the dying seconds, Sundowns almost sealed their victory with a second goal from a corner delivery but the ball hit the post before it was cleared away from danger on the rebound.
Al Ahly will look to bounce back as they host Sundowns in the return leg at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday, November 1st.
