Nigeria ex-international, Benedict Akwuegbu has called on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to appoint Emmanuel Amunike as one of the assistants to Finidi George in the Super Eagles.

According to Akwuegbu, the combination of George and Amunike will benefit the country due to their wealth of experience both as players and coaches.

He went further to task the professionals in the Super Eagles set-up to accord respect to George to succeed saying that he believes in the capability of George to thrive as coach of the Super Eagles.

His words: “I played with Finidi George and Emmanuel Amunike. These guys are great leaders on and off the pitch. NFF has chosen George, we just have to support him. I am also appealing to NFF to make Finidi George work with Amunike. Let two of them work together. It will benefit our country to succeed. It doesn’t matter. Let them work together because we are fighting for our fatherland. Nigeria belongs to all of us and joining them together will be a wonderful thing.

“George can do the job. He played in a lot of leagues at the highest level. He played with so many top coaches. He can do the job very well. He should focus on the job and have done it with Enyimba. He has been in Nigeria’s terrain for long and knows how Nigeria football runs. He should not listen to advice because a lot of people would want to give him players and impose players on him.

“George should take his mandate and make sure he puts players that merit to be there. I am supporting George. He is an ex-international and I played with him and if he succeeds, we all succeed.

“Ex-internationals should rally around George to succeed. I don’t want a situation during Sunday Oliseh time when some players were against him. These things are not good.

“The professional players have to respect him because when they appoint a local coach, the professional players doesn’t respect our local coaches. All the professional players should support him so that Nigeria will succeed.”
