The maiden edition of the Agidigbo fm/Oyo State Governor’s Cup 2021 kick start at the Leeds City University playing pitch on Wednesday with the Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Ashiwaju Seun Fakorede taking the kick off.
The Commissioner lauded Agidigbo fm for what he described as a wonderful initiative.
Ashiwaju Seun Fakorede added that the State government will continue to support such initiatives by private sectors.
The Commissioner stressed further that a joint venture between government and the private sector to ensure continuity of such events is necessary.
In his brief remarks, the CEO of Agidigbo fm, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat thanks the Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports Ashiwaju Seun Fakorede for gracing the tournament, adding that the next edition of the competition will be a greater one.
Among the prominent people that were present at the opening ceremony were Mr. Gboyega Makinde, the General Manager Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Ojelowo Kehinde, Oyo State FA Secretary, Mrs. Ibikunle the media Officer Ministry of Youths and Sports and so many dignitaries.
The opening game of the Agidigbo fm/Oyo State Governor’s Cup between VIA Fc vs Hon. Isiak Fc ended 2-0 in favour of Hon. Isiak. Ademakinwa Nurudeen scored the first goal of the tournament, while Akinyemi Usman netted the second goal.
The first red card of the tournament was awarded to Oyelami Idris of Hon. Isiak Fc.
Other fixtures for the Match Day 2 will be between Tai-Ken Fc vs Brightville at the Liberty Stadium by 2pm. While Rising Star will trade tackle Winners Fc by 4pm at the Liberty Stadium.
