According to the rumour emanating from Benin Republic, former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is set to be appointed as the new coach of the Squirrel of Benin.
The Franco-German gaffer was relieved of his appointment as the head coach of the Nigerian side in 2021 despite qualifying the team for the 2021 African Cup of Nations and 2022 World Cup playoffs.
The news came out following a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Beninese Football Federation on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.
If confirmed Rohr is expected to take over in seven days, that is next February 21.
The Federation of Benin Football led by Mathurin De Chacus has made no official statement on the subject.
If the appointment ends up being confirmed, Rohr will have his work cut out for him, Benin is already badly embarked on the CAN 2023 qualifiers, with a last place in its group.
The Squirrels lost in the first two days (3-1) in Senegal and (0-1) at home against Mozambique.
