Benin Rep Beat Super Eagles World Cup Qualification Dreams

Benin Republic shocked the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a 2-1 win in the Matchday four 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

With the result, the Super Eagles are yet to secure a victory and it is the first time ever that this has happened in 64 years of featuring in World Cup qualifying.

It was a big win for Benin Republic who are now temporarily the table toppers with seven points while Nigeria are in the fifth position in a six team group.

Matchday 5 of the qualifiers will resume in March 2025.

There are six more matches to play before the qualification series is concluded. Nigeria has drawn three matches prior to today’s defeat. They drew 1-1 against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa, scoring four goals and conceding five.
