The CAF African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) kicked off to an exciting start at the Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott, Mauritania this weekend where the WAFU A CAF Zonal Union is currently hosting its CAF African Schools Football Championship qualifiers.

A first of its kind in global football, the innovative schools football focused initiative by CAF is in its second season following the resounding 2022/23 success that saw CAF reaching close to 800 000 school-going boys and girls across Africa.

Five nations are currently contesting the WAFU A ticket to the Finals, where the winners in the boys and girls division will be decided in the finals set to take place on Monday, 03 March.

Ahead of the start of the competition, CAF in line with its objective of capacitating future African leaders conducted various workshops that saw learners and educators undergoing courses and workshops to equip them in building a better future for themselves both on and off the field.

These included a CAF-accredited D License coaching course, Young Medical Officers Workshop, Young Reporters Workshop, Young Referees Workshop and a CAF Safeguarding workshop designed to equip educators in creating a safe and secure environment for football development.

The tournament kicked off to a resounding success of youth football and continues over the next three days, as aspiring footballers make use of the CAF provided platform to showcase their talent.
