The hope of Nigeria’s Federation Cup champions Bendel Insurance reaching the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup looks bleak after playing out a 2-2 draw against RS Berkane at home.
The Nigerian side reached the second round after they got the better of ASO Chlef of Algeria in the first preliminary round.
Playing in front of their fans at Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Bendel Insurance took the game to the Moroccan and they got the opening goal earlier in the game.
RS Berkane levelled the game in the 39th minute with a striker Hamza Moussaoui and the first stanza ended in a 1-1 draw.
Augustus Vincent put the host ahead again in the 60th minute but lost concentration again in the 78th minute and allowed Berkane to come back into the game through Mohammed Hambt.
All the efforts of the Nigerian team to secure the winning goal proved abortive as the game ended 2-2.
Bendel Insurance will need to win in Morocco or secure a high-scoring draw to have a chance of progressing to the group stage of the competition.
