Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has highlighted the reason present players in the Super Eagles are struggling to make an impact.

Since the exit of former coach Gernot Rohr, the team has continued to find it difficult to win games convincingly.

They crashed out of the 2021 African Cup of Nations in the second round and failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar under coach Austin Eguavoen.

While speaking to Brila FM radio, the former Fiorentina player said the lack of creative players in the team is one of the key reasons they are not doing well.

” I feel they lack personality, they don’t know the right time to do it. In a country like ours, fans don’t forgive mistakes and so this could affect players’ confidence.

“So, I believe they lack personality for the dribbling skills, if you want to entertain your fans and show your skills, you need to have confidence and kill all forms of stage fright and fear.

“You’ll notice that some players perform well for their clubs but end up as a flop in the national team.

“I believe they need the personality and confidence to express themselves freely”, he said.

Obodo was part of the Super Eagles team in the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Angola.
