Nigeria’s representative in the CAF Confederation Cup Rivers United recorded a narrow win against USM Algiers in the first leg in Uyo.

Playing at the Goodswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo, the host tried to seize control of the game from the blast of the whistle but the Algerian champions refused to let go.

Augustine Okejepha netted the only goal of the game in the 10th minute to give the Pride of Rivers an edge.

In the second half, the Algerian played defensively and pegged back the attacking threat of the home team.

Despite the efforts, the Nigerian side was unable to add more goals as the game ended 1-0 in their favor.

The second leg is slated for next weekend in Algiers.

Rivers United will have to get a draw or refused to give a 2-goal margin in order to reach the semi final of the competition
