Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward Cyril Dessers was the star of the game late on Wednesday night as Cremonese reached the semi-final of the Coppa Italia for the first time in 37 years.
Despite, struggling in Serie A, the newly promoted side has become a giant killer in the cup competition having defeated Napoli in the Round of 16.
Favourite AS Roma was controlling the game but it was Cremonese that scored from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Rui Patricio brought down Dessers in the box and the Nigerian made no mistake in converting it.
Cremonese doubled their lead in the second half after another Nigeria International David Okereke rolled across for Charles Pickel’s wayward shot and Zeki Celik accidentally turned it into his net.
Belotti reduced the tally to 2-1 for Roma but it was Cremonese that qualified for the semi-final for the first time in a long period.
