Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro look far from impressed as they sat on Manchester United’s bench with their team getting hammered in the derby.
The Red Devils have travelled across the city to take on their neighbours, who took the lead within ten minutes and had made it 4-0 before half-time. Erik ten Hag’s side arrived off the back of four consecutive wins but were outclassed in the opening 45 minutes.
Ronaldo has been used from the bench for the majority of the season after failing to secure a move away in the summer. Casemiro meanwhile was a big-money signing from Real Madrid but has only been used as a substitute since arriving.
Both men are huge names and, despite being into their 30s, many would argue they would improve this United side.
They sat alongside each other on the bench and had neutral expressions which left little to the imagination.
Ten Hag opted to name the same XI that played in United’s last Premier League game against Arsenal, which was a month ago. They won 3-1 that day and took on a City side who play in a similar style.
The Dutchman said on his selection: “This is a different team – although they have similarities – but it is about us and developing our game. We need a win, a result and it can bring confidence.”
