Chelsea legend Didier Drogba made history on Thursday as he becomes the first African to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. The Ivorian was named among six new Hall of Fame inclusion by the Premier League.
Drogba was named alongside former Manchester City players, Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, former Manchester United players, Peter Schmeichel and Paul Scholes and Ian Wright of Arsenal.
Drogba scored 104 Premier League goals in 254 appearances over two spells at Chelsea, winning the league on four occasions, with 2 golden boots. The 44-year-old is currently Chelsea’s fourth highest goal scorer of all time.
A total of 16 players have now been admitted to the Hall of Fame, which recognises players to have played in the Premier League since it began in 1992.
The names of the 16 inducted players so far:
Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Peter Schmeichel and Paul Scholes, all of Manchester United.
Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp of Arsenal.
Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany of Manchester City.
Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba of Chelsea.
Steven Gerrard of Liverpool, and Alan Shearer of Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers.
