As the 20th National Sport Festival continues in Benin City, Edo State, Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde has charged Ogun State contingent to put in their best in the festival.

The commissioner gave this task when he visited Team Ogun at the Aminu Kano hall, University of Benin, Ugbowo, whereby he charged them to be good ambassadors of the state being known for excellence which they should strive to maintain.

Furthermore, he reminded them that the state government has dipped hands into the coffers to sponsor them to the festival in spite of the state’s economy and other matters demanding for government’s attention.

However, he enjoined them that the only way they can appreciate the state government is to come back with laurels.

Also, Kehinde assured them that the state will definitely reward good efforts, but encouraged the athletes to thrive for medals in their various sporting activities.

On the issue of welfare, the commissioner submitted that the state government has released fund to cater for their welfare during the festival and that all inadequacies currently being experienced will be improved upon.

He mentioned that apparatus have been set in motion for the immediate payment of their allowances which was delayed due to the Easter Holiday.

Whilst appreciating the commissioner for the visit, the paralympic athletes appealed to the state government to look into the issues of their contracts as this would motivate them further.

Meanwhile, Team Ogun has so far won a good and a silver while the female wrestlers are already at the final stage of their challenge.
