The state contingent having completed the mandatory COVID-19 test held at the MTR Specialist Hospital, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta on Saturday were sighted leaving the Rock City in conveyor at noon amidst hope and determination.

Many of the athletes whose events will kick start tomorrow were also among those that made the trip to the ancient Benin City, while others are to have enough relaxation before the commencement of their events.

However, the second batch of the team are expected to leave tomorrow, Sunday since all the modalities have been perfected by the management of the Ogun State Sports Council led by its Director of Sports, Mrs. Folakemi Oluwakemi Rotimi.

Top management staff of the sports council who have been having sleepless night for weeks were on ground to ensure smooth movement of athletes and officials for the festival that have suffered series of postponements due to the Coronavirus pandemic that disrupted the sports and business calendars globally.

Some of the athletes who spoke to Newsnigeria.online at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta confirmed their readiness to perform well in their various events, not minding the initial disappointment experienced due to postponement of the festival by the Federal Government as a result of the pandemic.

They hereby appealed to the good people of the state to continually pray for the team in their endeavors to win medals for the state, while urging Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to have and develop more confidence in the team.
