Super Eagles Vice-Captain, William Troost-Ekong is out for the season as he faces surgery on a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg on Tuesday.
Ekong suffered the injury on Matchday 2 against Ivory Coast but lived through the pain to help Nigeria bag the silver medal at the 2023 AFCON.
The 30-year-old scored the winning goal for the Super Eagles from the spot in the encounter.
The centre-back missed the Super Eagles’ following game against the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
Troost-Ekong went on to play every minute of the Super Eagles remaining games in the competition.
The former Watford player scored three goals for the three-time African champions at the AFCON 2023 finals.
