The manager of the English Premier League club Leicester City Brendan Rodgers has regretted missing out on the permanent signing of Nigeria’s Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman.

The Nigeria international spent last season on loan at the King Power Stadium but the Foxes failed to activate his buying option despite having a decent performance with the team.

Despite leading by 2-0 goals on Sunday, Leicester allowed Brentford back into the game and it ended in 2-2 draw.

Rodgers believed the absence of injured played affected the performance of the team and insisted that with Lookman in the team the story would have been different.

“That was the frustration for us with Barnes out, we don’t have a direct replacement. I would have loved to have signed Ademola who was great here last season and got over 10 goals and assists but we weren’t able to do that.

“For 60-65 minutes we were excellent in the game, in total control of it, played well, our pressing was good, and our football was terrific.

“It’s a huge credit to the players because we worked on something for five weeks in preseason, then in the last game here, we had a couple of injuries, we didn’t have a replacement (for Barnes) to come in, so we had to change the structure, and I had thought the players played it well,” he said.

Lookman who has now joined Italian Serie A club Atalanta played 26 games for Leicester City last season and scored six goals.
