Nigeria’s Favour Ofili breezed out of the block to smash her own record and set a world leading and African record of 22.36s to dominate at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville
Favour Ofili shattered her own school record in the 200m with a time of 22.36 seconds — the fastest time run in the college ranks and the world so far this year.
Ofili, a junior, shaved a full tenth of a second off the old school mark of 22.46 she set in 2022 while easily taking down Florida’s Talitha Diggs, who clocked a 22.61.
The time for Ofili was also a meet record at the prestigious Tyson Invitational as well as at the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
In addition to the school records set by Ofili and Meyer, transfer Alex Selles, a senior, put his name on the top of the men’s 800 list in Boston. Selles won the event in 1:47.33, just bettering Blair Henderson’s old school mark of 1:47.34 set in 2017.
She won ahead of two Americans, Talitha Diggs who crossed the line in 22.61 Seconds, and Kynnedy Flannels who placed 3rd with a time of 23.05 Seconds .
Before now, Ofili, a Silver Medalist in 400 meters at the 2019 African Games, also in April 2022 ran 10.93 Secs in the 100m at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, Los Angeles to became the first female NCAA athlete to run sub 22 Secs and sub 11 Secs. At just 16.
She represented Nigeria at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohama running in the 4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m relays.
The Tyson Invitational, is an annual indoor track and field meet which is held in early February at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
It was first held in Track Capital of the South, in Fayetteville, Arkansas State of the USA.
