Through a statement on their official website, Feyenoord have announced that Cyriel Dessers is returning to his parent club Racing Genk for the time being.
Feyenoord said goodbye to a number of players during the season finale on Thursday evening, and their head coach Arne Slot addressed Cyriel Dessers, Guus Til, Reiss Nelson and Valentin Cojocaru.
The Dutch Eredivisie giants stressed that the future of Dessers is still uncertain, adding that the option that he plays at the Rotterdam club next season was still kept open.
‘Thanks for the memories. #MakingMemories— Feyenoord Rotterdam (@Feyenoord)’.
An option to buy set at four million euros was embedded into Dessers’ contract but the nonobligatory purchase option has not yet been executed.
The Super Eagle joined Feyenoord last summer in search of regular game time after he slipped down the pecking order of centre forwards at Racing Genk following the capture of Ike Ugbo from Chelsea.
Dessers was a key player for Feyenoord in the recently concluded season, featuring in 41 games across the Dutch Eredivisie, KNVB beker and Europa Conference League.
The 27-year-old tallied 20 goals in all competitions, including ten in the Europa Conference League, and was in action for 1,957 minutes.
