Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare has tipped the Flying Eagles to go far in the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.
Reacting to Flying Eagles 2-0 win over Italy in their second group game on Wednesday night, Dare said the victory is an indication that nothing can kill the Nigeria spirit.
“It may sound like a cliche but it speaks the situation. There’s no killing the Nigerian spirits. Just when you think that Nigeria will fall, Nigeria will fail, that’s when you get the comeback miracle.
“You saw the game between Brazil and Italy. After I watched that game I had fear in my heart that are we going to face these people? And hope for a draw. But winning 2-0 shows the power and strength of developing youth football. That’s where the secret to success of football Nations lies. Look at Senegal dominance at every level, that dominance was built from bottom up. We need to return to that youth football development and we have seen the result of it. And I hope this team will go further and eventually most of them will graduate into the Super Eagles and I wish them the best of luck as they continue the campaign into the next Round.” He concluded.
Two times World Cup finalists, Flying Eagles are topping the group with six points from two matches and will trade tackles with Brazil while Italy take on Dominican Republic in group D last games.
