Sports fans, athletes and administrators are worried as Nigeria, the most populous African country is still missing on the 2024 Olympic Games medals table even when countries like Kenya, Botswana, South Africa, Cape Verde, Uganda, Egypt and Algeria have all won medals.

On Thursday, Day 13 of the 2024 Olympics, Team Nigeria participated in seven events, namely; women’s 200m Canoeing, women’s freestyle quarterfinal in wrestling, women’s and men’s 4x100m relay, men’s 800m repechage round, women’s long jump final and weightlifting without recording success.

However, the disappoinment of yet another day without medals was overshadowed by the kind gesture of the German team to Nigeria’s cyclist, Ese Ukpeseraye, at the ongoing Olympic games which caused a stir on social media.

Ese Ukpeseraye, via the microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter, extended appreciation to her German counterpart after they offered her a bicycle to train with at the ongoing Olympics in Paris.

“Due to the short notice of me competing at the Keirin &Sprint, #teamNigeria, i had no bicycle to race with on the tracks. In the spirit of sportsmanship, the German team @bunddeutscherradfahr came to my rescue by offering me a bicycle. Thank you,” she wrote.

Day 14, Friday, is another day Team Nigeria is looking forward to as another opportunity to be on the medals table.
