(R)Tanzanian boxer, Mkalekwa Salehe Omari, and his trainer, Emmanuel Mlundwa, on arrival at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, yesterday. Mkalekwa is billed to fight Nigeria's Rilwan "Baby Face" Babatunde for the WBF International welterweight title at GOtv Boxing Night on 2 April

Top Tanzanian welterweight boxer, Mkalekwa Salehe Omari, has warned Nigeria’s Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde to prepare for his first loss as a professional boxer. Both boxers are due to face each other for the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International welterweight crown at GOtv Boxing Night 22 holding in Lagos on 2 April. Speaking from his Dar es Salam base, the Tanzanian ring artist said he is coming to Nigeria to win the title and he is ready, willing and able to make that ambition a reality.

“I’m coming to win. There is nothing else to say beyond the fact that it will give me great joy to beat this guy in his country. We produce top boxers in my country and in my time, I have faced far better boxers than Baby Face, who I will beat like a baby. I know he is yet undefeated, but our fight for the WBF title, in my head, has already gone against him,” boasted Omari.

The same night, Baby Face’s compatriot, Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu, will also seek to add the prestigious WBF Intercontinental super featherweight to his list of honours when he faces Ghana’s Emmanuel “Afuko Addo” Quartey.

The bouts, which will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Indoor Sports Hall of the Rowe Park Sports Hall in Lagos, are to be held behind closed doors in line with public health protocols on COVID-19. Both fights and five others scheduled for the event will be broadcast live by SuperSport on DStv and GOtv in 50 African countries. Like Baby Face, Oladosu is still undefeated as a professional.

In the other bouts on the card, Yusuf “Innocent” Ogunbunmi will face Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan in the super featherweight category, Femi “Small Tyson” Akintayo will face Sulaimon “Olags” Adeosun in the super middleweight division, while two welterweight clashes will feature Sikiru “Lion” Ogabi against William “Kaki” Amosu and Isaac “I-Star” Chukwudi against Taiwo ‘Gentle Boy’ Olowu. In the heavyweight division, Timothy ‘Nsiefinagaije’ Gonze will take on Segun “Success” Olanrewaju
