Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has taken to social media this evening, to apologise to the club’s fanbase on the back of his costly error versus Burnley.
Spoils shared
Mikel Arteta’s men were back in Premier League action this afternoon, in a meeting with the Clarets at Turf Moor.
The Gunners headed into proceedings aiming to build on a solid run of form over the last couple of weeks, which had seen them first oust Benfica from the Europa League in dramatic fashion, before downing Leicester City at the King Power last time out.
When all was said and done in Lancashire, however, Arsenal’s latest resurgence was brought to a halt, in a 1-1 stalemate.
The north Londoners looked in complete control when an enterprising opening to the action saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike first, inside six minutes:

As has proven the case on so many occasions over recent years, however, Arsenal went on to prove the architects of their own downfall at Turf Moor.
Shortly before the interval, a risky pass out from the back on the part of Bernd Leno left Granit Xhaka in an unfavourable position deep in his own box, with the Swiss international having gone on to make a complete hash of his attempted ball out, in the process handing Burnley the most calamitous of equalisers:

‘Hold my hands up’
Further controversy over the course of the 2nd-half only resulted in Xhaka’s mistake being magnified further, as Arsenal were left to ponder how they had somehow come away without all 3 points on Saturday.
And, as outlined above, the man at fault is evidently fully aware of just how costly his latest error could prove come the season’s end.
Taking to his official Instagram account, Xhaka posted a heartfelt apology to the Gunners faithful, assuring that he is ‘just as frustrated’ as the club’s fanbase:
‘I hold my hands up for their goal and I’m sorry for the mistake. That’s football and right now I feel just as frustrated as all of you.’
