The Chairman, Nigeria Federal House of Representative Committee on Sports, Hon Ekene Adams has revealed the Committee’s plan to build sports facilities across the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria.
This was revealed at the Committee’s Media Parley on Tuesday held at the Bolton White Apartment, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja.
The Kaduna born lawmaker called on all sports stakeholders in the country to come together and embrace peace for the growth and development of sports in the country in making sure that the agenda of building at least one sport facility in a local government is achievable.
While speaking, the lawmaker said with the support of every stakeholders in the country, legislators will bring about the desired change in sports that Nigerians have been yearning for.
He assured that for wider consultations, their doors will continually be opened to every stakeholder to come in and offer bits and pieces of advice, which they’ll in turn proffer solutions to, so as to see that sports reclaim its lost glory in the country.
“All I am preaching is that we must come together to embrace peace, we are legislators, we believe we will legislate to do the laws and send it to the executives for them to implement”
“I also want to believe with the support of each and every one of you, we are going to bring that desired change and the dream of every Nigerian”
One important goal we will push to achieve is to build at least one sporting facility in each of 774 Local Governments. This will in a log way help sports development particularly at the grassroots.
“This is the dream we have been having, this is the Nigeria we want to see, each and every one of us that legislates will work with you, work with the executives to advise and see how we will achieve this feat and sports will come back from it’s lost glory”
Hon. Ekene equally used the opportunity to congratulate Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress as well as the women’s national football team, the Super Falcons for progressing to the quarterfinal at the ongoing 2023 Afrobasket in Rwanda, as well as the FIFA women’s world cup in Australia and New Zealand respectively.
