IMC Inherits N500m Referees Debt From LMC

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) stated that they inherited whopping Five Hundred million naira referee indemnity form Shehu Dikko led League Management Company (LMC).

The Ministry Sports declared the LMC illegal in September, 2022 and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) inaugurated IMC to temporarily take charge of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Chairman of IMC, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, in a television interview monitored by Prompt News said unlike in the past, the indemnities of match officials will be paid this season despite inheriting 500 million naira referees debt.

In order to make the league calendar be in line with the rest of the world, IMC has set December 28, 2022 for the 2022/2023 Abridged League draws having agreed with the managers of the clubs to kick-start the season January 8.

Based on that, the league body has sent out invitation to teams to be part of the official draws of the Abridged League scheduled to hold at Sandralia Hotel Abuja.

The IMC further advised teams to complete their club licensing processes before the draws.

Speaking in a television interview monitored in Abuja, Elegbeleye advised teams not ready for the abridged league, to pull out as the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, had advised the IMC to go ahead with the abridged league.

He said the NPFL will be on NTA while for cable networks, it might not start with the first few matches but later on in the season.
