Nigeria’s Super Falcons lost 3-1 to Japan in the final group game of the Paris Olympics women’s football event and crashed out of the competition.
After suffering back-to-back defeats to Brazil and Spain in the first and second games, they came into the final game with determination.
But it was the 2011 World champions who drew the first blood in the 22 minute via Hamano, and 10 minutes later, Tanaka netted the second goal.
Jennifer Echeginni halved the scoreline for the Falcons in the 42nd minute, but Kitagwa scored a sublime free kick in the 45th minute after Tosin Demehin fouled Japan’s attacker.
The Nigerian side tried to come back into the game in the second half but failed to convert their chances as the game ended 3-1.
