Kickboxing Open National Trials Records Huge Success — Technical Director

Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KFN) says the just concluded National Open Trials was successful adding that the objectives of the 2-day event were achieved.

About 50 boxers took part in the trials that was organized to get the best athletes that will represent Nigeria at the upcoming Kickboxing World Championship that is billed to take place in Albufeira, Portugal.

Speaking in an interview after the conclusion of the championship that took place at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Abuja, the KFN Technical Director, Kevin Onyika expressed satisfaction over the level of participation of the athletes.

“This is a trial for the world championship that is taking place in Portugal by November and we are using the championship to select the athletes that will represent Nigeria”.

“We have a reasonable turnout and we are happy with the performance of the athletes and the ways the athletes responded during the trials. We are hopeful we will have a good outing in November”.

The Technical Director further stated that the objective of the two days event was achieved.

“Our intention is to be fair and open and give everybody the opportunity to showcase their talent so that we can get the best athletes that will give us what we want.”

“We can’t do selection without having a trial because you might leave out some athletes that are good but with the trials, we were able to get good athletes that we want, so I can tell you that the objective of the trials was achieved”.

One of the athletes that took part in the open trials, Bello Basit promised to give the country a good representation if he makes the final selection.
