Manchester City have one of the best strikers in Europe after signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund over the summer, but Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider believes they could plump for another prolific centre-forward in Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or rankings after scoring 39 goals with 26 assists from 46 games in 2021/22, so he’d greatly improve City’s attack. Not only is he shining at club level, he’s bagged 28 goals and 21 assists from 59 games for the French national team too.
Paris Saint-Germain have Mbappe tied down for another three years and would request for his sale, but O’Rourke told Give Me Sport: “Manchester City have shown that they want to sign the world’s best players, so there’s no doubt that they would be looking at it to see if there’s a deal to be done.
“I’m sure the idea of having Mbappe and Haaland will be a really exciting prospect for Pep Guardiola as well.” The 23-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 17 goals with four assists. Mbappe has spent four years at the Parc des Princes, scoring 188 goals with 92 assists from 234 games, so he’s been world-class for some time.
Back in 2021, PSG slapped a €200m price tag on the Frenchman’s head when Real Madrid were trying to sign him, but it remains to be seen how much money it would take to bring him to Manchester now.
