Manchester United dealt Marcus Rashford injury blow vs Man City

Manchester United have this evening been dealt a concerning blow on the injury front, during their showdown with Man City.

Shaw adds to Fernandes’ opener

The latest edition of the Manchester derby is currently being played out at the Etihad.

It was of course hosts City who headed into proceedings as overwhelming favourites to emerge with all 3 points, amid a historic run of 21 successive victories across all competitions.

United, on the other hand, were winless in their last three, all of which ended in goalless stalemates.

As so often proves the case, however, the form book goes firmly out the window in derby matchups, and this evening’s clash, to this point, has proven no exception.

As things stand inside the closing 10 minutes, it is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s visitors who boast a 2-goal advantage.

Bruno Fernandes opened the game’s scoring from the penalty spot inside 120 seconds, after Gabriel Jesus clumsily floored Anthony Martial in the City box:

And the Red Devils went on to double their advantage early in the 2nd-half, as Luke Shaw carried forth a fine recent spell of individual form with a pinpoint finish into the bottom corner of Ederson’s net:

Rashford crocked

As outlined above, however, whilst United, at present, are well on their way to a potentially crucial 3 points at the Etihad, Solskjaer and co. have also been dealt a concerning blow.

This came on the personnel front, when, 20 minutes from time, Marcus Rashford pulled up with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

After been tended to by the visitors’ medical team, it was quickly decided that the English international was in no condition to continue, forcing Rashford off to be replaced by Mason Greenwood:

All associated with Manchester United now face an anxious wait for an update on the wellbeing of their star attacker, likely to be forthcoming over the next 24 hours.
