It has been less than a year since Lionel Messi left Barcelona for PSG, leaving the club on a free transfer after his contract had run out.

However, rumours linking the Argentina superstar with a return to Camp Nou are already doing the round quite heavily.

The fact that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has found the going tough at Parc des Princes and has been jeered by the fans, following the Parisians’ exit from the UEFA Champions League, has only added fuel to the fire.

Several pundits and former footballers have also tipped Messi to make a return to Barcelona in the near future. However, club president Joan Laporta put those speculations to bed recently, insisting that the Catalans were not considering re-signing him at this point.

In the aftermath of those statements, fresh reports from TyC Sports have claimed that Messi himself is not considering moving back to Barcelona at this juncture.

Barça Women’s last training before facing Real Madrid at the Camp Nou
FC Barcelona completed one last training session at the Camp Nou before hosting Real Madrid in the second leg of the 2021/22 UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals. In the first leg, they won 3-1.

For now, the 34-year-old’s complete focus is on the Argentina national team and the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year. Even if he were thinking about leaving PSG immediately, the report adds that the global superstar would not consider a return to Barcelona.

As things stand, Messi is not keen on moving back to Camp Nou, at least in the short term as long as Laporta remains the president of the club.

The former Barça captain has a contract with PSG that runs until the summer of 2023. It remains to be seen if he is willing to see that deal out or is leaning towards an exit from the French capital club. However, a return to Catalonia does not seem to be on the cards in the near future.
