Italian Serie A top side AC Milan are proceeding in their attempts to sign Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal with composure and calm, according to a report.
As Calciomercato.com report, Milan have no intention of working themselves up into a frenzy over the Nigerian, as there are more than 50 days left until the end of the transfer window, so there is plenty of time to work and find an agreement with Villarreal.
Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada have set themselves the goal of delivering most of the new signings to Stefano Pioli before leaving for the tour in the USA, scheduled for July 21. However, some key signings will naturally take more time.
Milan had a first offer of €25m turned down but they remain determined to land him, while the Nigeria international has a contract with the Yellow Submarine which expires in June 2024 thus adding a bit of pressure.
The Rossoneri want the 24-year-old who they see as the ideal starting right winger but they want to pay the right price too, considering the fact that in less than a year he will be available on a free.
The management will also reiterate this to Villarreal, who have set a high asking price, while their president Fernando Roig poked fun at Milan with his comments to the media last week albeit without a lot of leverage.
The sales of Pau Torres to Aston Villa and Nicolas Jackson to Chelsea have brought some money in, but Roig also noted that Villarreal have spent €70m on their stadium and thus are ‘seeking an economic balance’.
Chukwueze is waiting meanwhile, having already let Villarreal know that he will not renew his contract which expires in less than twelve months and that he intends to leave, but he doesn’t want to force his hand.
He made it clear in an interview with El Pais on May 30 that he has no intention to cause a scene: “The Roigs have always behaved well with me. They are part of my family. I want to leave and ensure that the club can collect a good amount from my sale.”
Meanwhile he is enjoying the last few days of his vacation, and his team-mates have already started preparing for the season. Chukwueze won’t be in the group called up by Quique Setien for the mini tour in Switzerland, scheduled from 13 to 21 July.
