Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his belief that Ademola Lookman is likely to win this year’s CAF Africa Footballer of the Year award, surpassing reigning titleholder Victor Osimhen.

Lookman, who excelled with Atalanta in Serie A, notably netted a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, playing a pivotal role in Atalanta’s achievements.

His stellar season also saw him named Atalanta’s Best Player, tallying 27 goals across all competitions. Additionally, Lookman shone at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, where his standout performances, including three goals and an assist, earned him a place in the Tournament’s Team. Ndidi voiced confidence in Lookman’s prospects for the CAF award, stating,

“In all honesty, I think Ademola (Lookman) stands a better chance to winning it. Though both he and Osimhen have done well for their clubs, Ademola stands a better chance.” Lookman’s recent accolades, including the Best African International Footballer award at the Ghana Football Awards, further bolster his candidacy.

Osimhen, who secured last year’s CAF Africa’s Best Player award after leading Napoli to the Serie A title, faces tough competition as the December CAF Africa Footballer of the Year announcement approaches, highlighting Lookman’s compelling case for the prestigious accolade.
