Paris Saint-Germain hopes to have Neymar Jr. back in action for the UEFA Champions League double-header against Real Madrid according to coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Groin and ankle problems have held up Neymar’s progress with PSG this season, and he hasn’t started a Ligue 1 Uber Eats games since November’s 3-1 win over bottom club, AS Saint-Étienne.
The Brazilian has contributed three goals and three assists in the 10 games he has managed to feature in – coming in at a rate of one every 139 minutes – and Pochettino will be relieved to welcome him back for the Madrid games, which take place on 15 February and 9 March.
“He’s continuing his recovery under medical supervision, and he’s on schedule,” the Argentine coach assured at the press conference before PSG’s meeting with Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday. “We hope that everything will be fine in the coming weeks.”
Unlike fellow injury absentees Julian Draxler and Danilo, Neymar is recovering in his native Brazil – something Pochettino sought to assuage. “We came to an agreement before his departure for Brazil to record his return on Sunday,” he said.
