The Interim Coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen has said he’s still.in charge of the Super Eagles labelling reports about him stepping aside as fake news.
It was speculated that the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, Austin Eguavoen has stepped aside after managing the Super Eagles in the match day 1&2 of the 2025 African Nations Cup qualifier games against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Speaking immediately after their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja, he said: “It’s just unfortunate that people just triggered something that is not correct and the situation we are in now, we don’t need negative stories.
” I only talked about, I am going to sit down with the hierarchy of the Federation after this two games and how I will be prosecuting the next games.
But when I saw that story I was kind of worried, concerned.
“Whatever people are reading out there is not correct, I am still very much in charge and still the Technical Director of Nigeria Football Federation saddled with the responsibility of being in charge of the Super Eagles at this moment and that’s where we are.”
Nigeria are topping the Group D with four points from two games. Having defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in Uyo on Saturday, the three times African champions played a 0-0 draw against Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
