Kelechi Ịheanachọ and Wilfred Ndidi both failed to impact the result for their team as Leicester City shared the spoils with Leeds away from home at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Before the game, both teams had endured a poor run of games while struggling for points recently, which is evident in their relegation battle and position on the English Premier League standings.
The home side had not won a game in their last four outings, winning just twice in ten league games, while losing six of those. While Leicester City’s last ten games show worse results, with the foxes winning just the game against Wolves out of their last ten EPL games, losing seven of those, while drawing twice, making tonight’s draw against Leeds valuable to new manager Dean Smith and his crew.
Nigeria’s duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Ịheanachọ both failed to make any impact on the game, with Ndidi an unused substitute on the bench, while Ịheanachọ played for 82 mins, making two attempts at goal, both of which were off target, neither scoring nor assisting.
The draw ensured that Leeds in 16th position maintained one point (30) over Leicester in 17th with 29 points, with the latter having one point over Everton in 18th with 28 points, as the fight for survival keeps going neck to neck.
Although, after the game against Wolves, where he scored, while speaking to LCTV (Leicester’s Media), Kelechi hinted his intentions to help the Foxes survive the season, as well as accepting the multiple roles he’s been deployed into by the coaches,
“I don’t mind where I play, whether it’s up front, or No.10 or on the wing.
“I just need to help my team to get the points that we need. Together we can do it. We just stick together.
“We are going to enjoy it, but we need to focus on the next game now. Hopefully we keep the momentum going into the next game and keep winning.”
But when the next game came against Leeds, the 26-year-old Nigerian forward failed to make do on his promise, with only five games left to ensuring safety.
Leicester City face the likes of Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Newcastle, and West Ham in their remaining League fixtures, with 18 points up for grabs, having picked just 29 points in 33 games played thus far.
Hopefully the new manager bounce from Dean Smith and his assistant John Terry, will propel some magic to see the Foxes through the finish line.
