Nigeria forward, Asisat Oshoala scored her first goal of the season for FC Barcelona as they got their Spanish Liga F title defence in style with a 2-0 win against Madrid CFF in the opening game of the season on Saturday.
The Spanish Liga F champions were hoping to avenge their last season’s defeat at the hands of Madrid CFF, who ended their long standing unbeaten league run, no thanks to a brace from Rachael Kundananji.
Norwegian international, Caroline Hansen scored the first goal of the encounter in the 40th minute from Claudia Pina’s assist at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcala de Henares, Madrid.
The lone goal separated both sides after the first period of the game before the introduction of Oshoala after the 2023 Ballon d’Or nominee replaced Patricia Guijarro in the 75th minute.
Newly signed Spanish defender, Ona Batlle set Oshoala up for the second goal of the match six minutes from time.
With the win, the Catalan side occupy the second position on the table with three points and an inferior goal difference behind Rasheedat Ajibade’s Atletico Madrid.
Atletico’s 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao earlier on lifted the capital team to the top of the table.
Barcelona will next face Huelva at the Campo del CD Lamiya, Huelva, on October 1, 2023.
