Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has taken eighteen players to Poland for the Europa League match day four fixture against Legia Warsaw.
As expected, Victor Osimhen has been left out of the traveling squad as a precaution.
The Nigeria international is still recovering from a minor calf problem he aggravated in training before the visit to Salernitana.
Osimhen followed a personalised programme on the pitch in Napoli’s first training session this week on Tuesday and did individual work in the gym on Wednesday morning.
Luciano Spalletti is hopeful of having his number nine back for the visit of Verona to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this coming Sunday.
The former Lille and RSC Charleroi striker is the Blues’ top scorer in the Europa League with four goals after scoring in consecutive matches against Leicester City, Spartak Moscow and Legia Warsaw.
But despite returning to training, Osimhen is still a doubt for Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
Osimhen will be closely followed by a coach and a member of the medical staff on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to discover whether he will be ready to play against Verona on Sunday.
Should he miss the clash against Verona, he is likely to withdraw from Nigeria’s squad for the two games. Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has already come in for criticism from some sections of the Italian media for including the 22-year-old in his squad.
